The First Annual Oakley Downhill Derby of Doom

I use to work across the street from Oakley and have a few friends that work over there - the following paragraph is very true!

"When you work at Oakley headquarters, you come to expect the unexpected. One day a Ferrari will be hauling ass around the traffic circle out front and the next an Olympic gold medalist will be signing autographs in the lobby. Like the brand itself, life at One Icon is far from ordinary."

X GAMES ENDURO X 2012 Final Highlight

I love EnduroCross! But watching the sport make its way into the XGames, reminded me about the DVD I bought back in 2009 of the Vegas event. As I was watching the XGames YouTube clip, I did a generic search on YouTube and sorted by "Most Viewed" and discovered this video that shows just how hard this sport is for the "regular bonafiede dirt bike guy."

So before you just pop out to your next event and want to flex mad skillz, just watch this video:

You better recognize!

And then - there is ERZBERG RODEO that can not be contained in a small format of a structural building:

And when that is all done and finished, wipe the sweat off and just know when RedBull has their name on it - OMG!!!

Social media to-do list: 10 tasks every PR pro should complete

Social media will suck up as much time as you let it. Balancing social media activity with the meaningful work and relationships we have in real life is vital.

One solution is to make a to-do list of social media tasks and stick to the priorities.

Make Team Conflict Work For Strategy

Being smart isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Having team leaders with intelligence is great, but for organizations to really get somewhere together it takes teamwork. In his book “The Advantage,” Patrick Lencioni addresses organizational health issues. He stresses the importance of healthy organizational environments as the trumping influencer of success over all other “smarter” competencies in areas such as marketing, finance, technology and even strategy.

In our view, meaningful strategic achievement does not happen in silos. The fulfillment of long-term objectives requires departments to act in unison at some point. It doesn’t matter if the goals are tracked with MyStrategicPlan or an MS Excel file (although we believe the former is more effective). What matters beyond all else is that leadership is ready to focus on the whole organization as their number one priority, and recognize when departmental protectionism is harming rather than helping achieve important organizational outcomes.

Gore Vidal dies: 10 of his best quotes on writing and language

Gore Vidal dies: 10 of his best quotes on writing and language
By Michael Sebastian | Posted: August 1, 2012

Another one of the great American writers of the 20th century has died.

Gore Vidal passed away on Tuesday at his home in the Hollywood Hills. He died of complications of pneumonia. Vidal was 86.

The New York Times obituary offers a glimpse at his résumé:

“Mr. Vidal was, at the end of his life, an Augustan figure who believed himself to be the last of a breed, and he was probably right. Few American writers have been more versatile or gotten more mileage from their talent. He published some 25 novels, two memoirs and several volumes of stylish, magisterial essays. He also wrote plays, television dramas and screenplays. For a while he was even a contract writer at MGM. And he could always be counted on for a spur-of-the-moment aphorism, putdown or sharply worded critique of American foreign policy.”
