MARKETING 101: Shit Never Rolls Up Hill

This is the only time you will ever see shit roll up hill!

Driving Talet & Methodology

Love this quote from Bruce Elfstrom of Overland Experts

"OEX shows people they can drive simple to "impossible" roads without ruining their vehicles, themselves, others, or the environment. The safe, effective and logical operation of an off-road or utility vehicle is not a simple skill, but one well worth obtaining. Places and people in the world that have taught me there is a way to drive and still push the envelope of your skills and vehicle, without ego or aggression. Operating off-road is a pragmatic skill set; for fun, or work… Take pride in your driving." A exceprt from Bruce Elfstrom CEO of Overland Experts.

The 13 Most Useless Majors, From Philosophy to Journalism

I read this little report:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/galleries/2012/04/23/the-13-most-useless-majors-from-philosophy-to-journalism.html

My response:
Lets add the fact that without commercial art and graphic design, people would be carrying rocks in their pockets and purses. Someone had to come up with a "Philosophy" of paper + art = gold nugget. And someone had to create the "Architecture" of how this system would work as well as design the location of where to store said gold to equal designed paper to equal that gold, once upon a time ago...
Hummm, the fine art of all that drama!

Enhancing collaboration and employee engagement

Good Read: http://www.forbes.com/sites/haydnshaughnessy/2012/04/25/the-8-essentials-of-innovation/

Some highlights if you don’t get a chance to read it:

·         Lesson 3: The best innovators develop innovation programs with a market entry model attached. They see innovation as integral to their changing understanding of the market and they seek out support that helps them manage back and fore along the continuum.

·        #5. Enhancing collaboration and employee engagement: Companies like Bombardier report significant increases in employee engagement through the use of innovation – as distinct from the use of collaboration strategies. Innovation is inherently an engagement practice, though you have to be smart about managing that engagement, giving employees feedback and letting them know where their contributions are headed.

·         Lesson 7: You need a strategic options approach to innovation, otherwise the market will overtake you.

Carryology Interviews :: Kifaru

For our second Carry Conversation we asked Mel Terkla, one of the designers behind Kifaru's Tactical line, a few questions about Kifaru's place in the world of carry.

Kifaru is a Colorado-based manufacturer of high-end hunting, camping & tactical bags. Their Made-In-America packs, haulers, teepees and more are also 100% Berry Amendment compliant, which means that the raw materials and components of every bag are also made in the USA. We have one of theirXRay bags winging its way toward us as we speak, and we're looking forward to dishing out as much punishment to it as we dare.

Venn diagram

In the 1960s, Charles and Ray Eames described a model for practice that considered the unique and overlapping interests of the three groups: the design studio, the client’s business, and society at large. The essence of their model is that the most relevant, impactful work occurs at the intersection of these interests.

Burke & Wills - Wills & Burke

While reading my favorite forum, Expedition Portal, I've subscribed to a thread called "Coolest expedtion type movies." A recent post said something about "Burke & Wills." This struck me with a great deal of curiosity as my last names is Wills and my rally co-pilots' last name is Burke!

So, the post stated, "Burke and Wills - Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria in 1860 with expedition camels. The first Europeans to(almost)do so. Sound quality is sketchy (in the netflix stream version anyway) but a decent film."
http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/2118-Coolest-quot-expedition-quot-type-movies?p=1063171#post1063171

I grabbed the "Burke and Wills" and dropped that into the Google search window and came across this: "In 1860–61, Robert O'Hara Burke and William John Wills led an expedition of 19 men with the intention of crossing Australia from Melbournein the south to the Gulf of Carpentaria in the north, a distance of around 3,250 kilometres (approximately 2,000 miles).[1] At that time most of the inland of Australia had not been explored by non-indigenous people and was completely unknown to the European settlers."

Area 51: Unauthorized Entry Will Be Met With Lethal Force

Every weekday morning, some 500 people arrive at a guarded terminal on the northwest side of McCarran Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Here they board one of a small fleet of unmarked Boeing 737s.  Using three-digit numbers prefixed by the word "Janet" as their call signs, the 737s fly off every half-hour.  Their destination is Groom Lake, a dried-up wash in the Mojave Desert, better known as "Area 51," an installation so secret, its very existence is denied by the government agencies and contractors who have connections there.

My Personal Business History

My personal business history [starting business / working for myself] has been a wild story within themselves and while all of them have gone away, the important lessons I have learned with them have given me the opportunity to build a core foundation of vast experiences! Same time, we did some really cool things along the way that have made lasting impressions. I am both proud and at ease with myself because at the end of the day I went out into the "wild" and did something! Not bad for a kid from Sycamore, Alabama.

The quick synopses:

1st -   Great success in moving my family forward - Family Bike Shop I started in high school
2nd - I was too afraid of selling out - KTD [clothing]
3rd -  I sold out too fast - TMRm'zine [magazine]
4th -  Biz partners imploded - Image Dynamics [Car Audio Mfg]

ECHO Niner E9 Mil-SPEC COMBAT CAMERA STRAP

I received my ECHO NiNER Mil-Spec combat camera strap - IN CAMO!
The cord-loop end detail is impressive as the strap is flapped over and has a hole at the end so the cord-loop can be pulled through, then 12X stitched over.
